Dental fear is common. At Arden Dental Center, we understand that, and we also know that almost half of Americans suffer from some level of dental anxiety. Many people skip their dental visits or essential dental procedures out of their fear. But now, with different methods of sedation dentistry, we can help our patients receive the dental care they require without any anxiety. Our dedicated team can make your visit to the dentist an extremely relaxing and pain-free experience.

What are the benefits of Sedation Dentistry?

Through sedation dentistry, we aim at making you feel comfortable and calm during your dental visit. In such a condition, it will be easy for the dentist to perform the dental procedure more efficiently, minimizing the treatment duration.

For those with severe dental anxiety, sedation dentistry is like a blessing. These patients often delay their treatment or avoid meeting their dentist, and over time start experiencing oral problems due to untreated dental conditions. But with the help of sedation dentistry, such patients can overcome dental phobia and receive the treatment on time. Undergoing your dental procedures on time can help improve your oral and overall health.

Who are the candidates for sedation dentistry?

Sedation is apt for patients with any of the following problems:

  • Have a fear of needles.
  • Have sensitivity in gums or teeth.
  • With an overactive gag reflex.
  • Hate the sounds of dental instruments, smells, and tastes of the medications in a dentist's office.
  • Have difficulty sitting still for a long period of time.
  • Have bad memories of previous dental visits.

You will have to discuss with Dr. Lu your medical history or other underlying health conditions. This will help our dentist determine the best sedation as well as the treatment method.

What are the different methods of sedation?

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation includes sedatives and pain relievers to make the patients fall into a relaxed state of consciousness. This will help avoid any pain or discomfort.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas," is inhaled through a mask. The gas will put the patient in a calming state and keep them relaxed throughout the dental treatment. Its effect wears off soon after the treatment.

IV Sedation

IV or Intravenous sedation is a type of sedation administered to the patient to get rid of their dental anxiety and stay calm while the treatment is performed.
